What is Semi-Custom?

Semi-custom is where you can mix and match pre-approved design elements for a budget-friendly costume with a custom feel.

Just like full custom you will still submit your design ideas & inspiration images. From there we will create & present design sketches based off of your ideas. We design based off of tone, essence, features from images, and other pieces of inspiration you provide.

Benefits Compared to Full Custom:

  • Custom look without the full custom price, you can mix and match different design elements to create your own vision
  • By choosing semi-custom you can save on your team costumes, as it will take us less time to pattern, prototype, and test the garments.
  • There is a shorter development time with semi-custom, as we have already patterned these garment pieces.

Requirements:

  • Mix and match pre approved patterns to create your costumes, you are able to change the fabrics and colors.
  • Semi-custom has a lower barrier to entry compared to full, where you only need to have a quantity of 10 to get a custom design.

Semi-Custom Q&A

Q: Why should I use Semi-Custom instead of Full Custom?

A: Semi-custom is a budget-friendly way to get a custom look without paying the full custom price tag. Because we are not starting from scratch, the process is more efficient, and we can offer a lower price point.

Q: What if I don’t know if I need Semi-Custom or Full Custom?

A: That’s okay! We can start with Semi-Custom to get as close to your idea as possible. If our pre-designed elements don’t fit your vision, we can always continue the design under Full Custom.

Q: As I evaluate my prototype, what small design changes are limited with Semi-Custom?

A: You cannot change the placement or shape of major style lines: Waistlines, armholes, leg holes, sweetheart necklines and necklines with collars. The shape and sizing of our standardized base patterns cannot be changed: leotards, biketards, unitards, sleeves, collars, leggings, skirts.

You can change the placement of secondary style lines (style lines drawn within a pattern piece that only intersect with 2 fabrics, excluding sweetheart necklines). In most instances, you can change the length of a design element. (i.e. Making the skirt longer by 2” is permitted.)

For both Semi-Custom and Full Custom, major design changes are not allowed. Any deviation from the approved sketch is considered a major change. If you proceed with a major change, additional costs for fabrics, trims, and pattern-making time will apply.
